Palm Pre, Apple iPhone – Next Generation Enterprise Devices?
April 28, 2009 by Raj Sheelvant
As the race to the bottom continues (From a form factor perspective) in enterprise application, new breed of enterprise devices will continue to ascend. iPhone and Palm Pre are the new client devices that can be enabled to integrate with Enterprise application. It’s going to be an excellent fit for custom application for the enterprise, and for Web app developers in particular to do custom apps. Not only these devices are ultra mobile but their operating system, like Google Android, will eventually run on netbooks. As new category of Netbooks and MID (mobile internet devices) begin to take firmly hold as viable client devices for the Enterprise application, I think they will begin to replace most of the laptop computer.
There is still some computing capability that needs to be built into these MIDs to completely replace laptops. For example Palm Pre is designed to run the tasks in the background. When all MIDs can do that efficiently then these computing innovations along with very attractive price points a new market segment will open up especially in emerging countries. I think the next wave of Enterprise Application will bring large number of producers and consumers together, thus taking the technology to the ‘bottom billion’.

I’ve had my Pre because shortly immediately after launch and am glad to find (by means of this forum) that I can now set a ring tone on incoming text messages and can look for by means of e-mails and such. Now is there any hope for an upcoming launch where I can research my calendar? Would make my job a lot less complicated, acquiring dates of final appointments. No other complaints, except that yesterday I had been in and out of Sprint service (not unusual). I believe I used to be roaming, and looked at my calendar. Anything in the calendar was 1 hour earlier than what I had input. The clock was one particular hour early as properly. I was scared to death–then, as soon as we got back into Sprint assistance again, every little thing was normalized. Has this happened to any individual else?? Searching forward to answers, but please remember, I’m no techie and speak English instead of technospeak.
